I have recently learned something very valuable and truthful about my sexuality as a woman. It’s never been used for its original purpose. It’s never been unencumbered as pure sensuality and pleasure.

And that’s what it’s designed for. Pleasure. Not catching a man, not trying to make someone else jealous, not buying affection and certainly not to try and persuade someone to love you.

You see, over the years I have used my sexual power to placate anger, to defuse arguments, to keep my partner “happy”, to get control, to keep the peace, to do my duty, to excite interest, to flatter ego, to feel attractive…

I never did pleasure for pleasures’ sake. I did what I felt would make me enough to keep my partner loving me.

That’s not honest. Giving something in exchange for an agenda of hoped for emotions, commitment, safety, peace, family…

Along the way, I lost the ability to be in the moment, to be truly intimate with myself. To truly experience pleasure, free of an unspoken emotional agenda.

I forgot about myself in the currency of male ego, and by doing so denied my partner access to my true self, faking my way through experiences that could have been pleasurable if I hadn’t desperately wanted to be in control of it all.

And I lost my soul. My essence. The ability to let go into the place where being fully in your sexual power is designed to take you to altered states of consciousness and full awareness of yourself in a raw and primal, beautiful physical state.  I believe that’s what sexual union should be. A bliss state, free of judgment, fear and guilt.  A union that’s honest, with no undercurrents of emotional payment and expectation.

I have decided to walk a different path now. To explore pleasure possibilities for their own sake, to expand my experiences of life, of being a spiritual being in a physical body. To enjoy every sensation that I choose to experience, to revel in my sexuality for myself. Am I afraid? You bet. Yet I will walk this path with an honest love for myself that no longer uses my sexuality as emotional currency.

That is far too high a price for any woman to pay.

What Anne-Marie has written applies just as much to men as to women.

The expression of sex being pervaded by agendas other than pleasure, love, intimacy and connection is slightly different in men.

So many of us, men and women, use sex as currency, emotional currency. 

We give it or withhold it in a space of manipulation that often destroys our partner’s and relationships. It becomes a slow erosion of intimacy, of trust, of self-confidence.

It becomes a tool in an expression of power that comes from a place far from the heart, far from what love is.

When we use sex in this way, it’s not about intimacy or connection. It can’t be.

And it certainly can’t be connected to the higher possibilities, the spiritual wonders that pleasure offers us.

Sex becomes a weapon. And the natural flow of this energy in our bodies is interfered with, with sometimes dire consequences.

For women, the physical impact is linked to painful sex, lack of lubrication and a struggle or inability to have orgasms.

For men this manifests in erection and ejaculation problems.

In relationships we lose intimacy, and when this goes we’re in trouble. Intimacy is the basic connection that holds us together. When that becomes tempered with mistrust, with insecurity, with communication that is not fully open, when we feel a lack of respect, when we are unfulfilled, we are unable to communicate about and resolve other issues and problems.

We lose our sensuality, because sensuality and intimacy are directly linked. And in sensuality we find fulfillment, that’s what touches our hearts. The sex becomes a purely physical expression, which is fine, if that’s what you’re looking for, but that’s all it is.

We clothe ourselves in masks, we become something, someone we’re not. We move away from ourselves. The anger, the frustration we feel at this, is directed outwards, onto our partner. The deeper we go into this space, the harder it is to reclaim ourselves, to see what we’re doing, and how to come back from there.

This is far too high a price for anyone to pay.

The week in Cape Town was filled with beauty and intensity.

It began with the G-Spot documentary at The Encounters Documentary Festival and a discussion afterwards. The documentary itself had some positive elements but was generally pretty clinical, taking nothing of the emotional connection into account, a very limited view of G-Spot pleasure and possibilities. These are things which we in the Tantric world are so aware of and share on a daily basis. It was disappointing that none of this was considered.

The discussion afterwards took on a ‘clinical’ form, becoming focused on sexual politics rather than the empowerment, the healing and the pleasure.

What has come out of many of the G-Spot lessons and workshops is not only the increase, vast, in pleasure, but the empowerment so women are experiencing. This is not only in a sexual sense but linked to so many other aspects of our being, creativity and personal power, the strength to change many situations that was never there before. The release of the energy blockages, the past, the limitations, the shame, embarrassment and guilt about so much of our lives, stored in this area, in Tantra we call it the Goddess Area, is profound and lasting.

It is an amazing reminder about how our sexuality is linked to all areas of our lives, our identity as men and women.

This is one of the reasons why the G-Spot DVD we’re starting to shoot soon is so important. We’d like a few more people for the DVD, not all involving nudity, some time women to just talk about what finding their G-Spot has done. To assist this we’re offering free lessons and healing advice to people interested in participating in this exciting project.

At the Expanded Orgasm workshop there was a couple who taught us something that really expanded the possibilities. He is in treatment for cancer, the medication has had serious impact on his libido and sexual functioning. At the end of the evening he ‘has found a new definition of himself as a man and a new way to pleasure his wife. So much will change from this’.

So many people are in relationships similar to this. There is no need to live without pleasure, so many options and possibilities available to us.

Then came the first experiences of the Double Goddess Massage. We always knew it would be a powerful, we didn’t know quite how powerful, deep, healing and pleasurable it would be.

The Double Goddess Massage is a gift of receiving for women. It has no agenda, no specific direction or ending. It follows the energy in your body, deeply relaxing, pleasurable and sensual.

Before I share more about this, and at the end of the newsletter I’ve included some more of the feedback we got from the Goddess’s we shared this with, as well as from the workshops in Cape Town.

The ‘me’ as a teacher and healer is now a ‘we’.

I am SO excited and happy to say that I have begun working with Anne-Marie, teaching and sharing the healing space.

This makes so much more possible, adds a wonderful, exciting and insightful perspective to the workshops.

Over the years I’ve been on this wonderful journey I’ve come to know many of the blocks we have to pleasure.

For women, one of the strongest of these is the permission she’ll give herself. So often we see ourselves, women much more than men, as sexual and sensual beings in relation to somebody else. On so many talks and workshops I talk about how we’re sexual and sensual beings in our own right, not dependent on anybody else for pleasure. The more we see this, the more we free ourselves from the limitation that our pleasure is reliant on somebody else.

More than this, so many women have been conditioned to the fact that if somebody gives to them sexually, they have to give something back. One of the deepest gifts you can give a woman is the gift of pleasure with no reciprocation expected. This affirms her, allows her to go fully into the pleasure, into the feelings and sensations. It frees her to be HERSELF.

This is one of the gifts that the Double Goddess Massage offers.

Waves of energy creeping up the shoreline of my body

as my skin rises to meet four hands, two hearts, and……myself.

An electric current of pleasure and sweet surrender awakens this goddess.

Deeply honoured is how I feel, in this space of sacred ritual and pleasure,

‘though mine is a pleasure not erotic, not of arousal……….

she shows me something of herself that surprises me

and a sense of possibility for so much healing, releasing,

opening, surrendering, evolving, allowing…….

It is what it is…………….

This experience of being touched by these divine hands of healing,

these blissful breaths of spirit, these hearts of love,

these beautiful beings of such deep presence and sacred touch,

leaves me, in the end, resting in a space of such exquisite peace and stillness…

no thoughts, no emotions, no feelings –

resting in a place beyond all of this,

a place so much closer to the essence of who I am.’
